WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Malia Craft’s 200-foot three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning helped the Lady Rams’ to a six-run first frame en route to a 7-3 victory over the Bison of Howard University in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Randy Jones Field in Winston-Salem.
The Lady Rams put six runs on the board in the first inning of play as an RBI double by Kayla Woodbury, an RBU double by Whitney Hall, an RBI single by Britney Cato and a three-run home run by Malia Craft gave WSSU all the runs that they would need on the afternoon.
WSSU starting pitcher Tiffany Burgess would scatter 12 hits, three runs and a pair of walks in a seven-inning complete game victory as she earned her first win of the season and improved to 1-0 overall.

Christine Sborz was saddled with the loss for Howard as she pitched only one-third of an inning while giving up four runs, all earned. Relief pitcher Carly Martin pitched two and two-thirds innings for the Bison where she gave up three earned runs as she allowed Craft’s three-run homer on her second pitch of the game.
The win moves the Lady Rams to an even 2-2 on the season while Howard falls to 1-1 overall with the loss.
Winston-Salem State returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 25 as they host the Lady Pirates of Hampton University for a doubleheader.
