Lady Rams Shut Down St. Paul's, 9-0

Feb. 22, 2008

Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-3) kept their momentum going when they scored a 9-0 win over the St. Paul's Lady Tigers (0-3), Friday afternoon. The Lady Rams used some shut down defense to pull out the win, holding the Lady Tigers to just two hits in the game.

While the WSSU offense took center stage in game one of Friday's doubleheader, the Lady Ram defense stole the show Friday evening, holding the St. Paul's Lady Tigers to just two hits in the win. The Lady Rams held the team scoreless for the second game of the day despite a pair of Lady Tiger hits in the game.

A leadoff single was the only St. Paul's hit until another fourth inning single. In between, the WSSU defense forced five ground outs and five strikeouts to eliminate any threats from the visitors. The Lady Rams notched four runs each in the first and third innings, before sealing the win with a run scored in the fourth inning.

WSSU freshman infielder Kayla Woodbury led the attack for the Lady Rams with a two-for-two effort from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored in the game. Lady Ram sophomore pitcher Ashley Boswell (2-0) pitched the Lady Rams to the win going all five innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.

The Lady Rams will not have long to rest with the team hosting the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles in a noon doubleheader tomorrow at South Park Field.
