Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Huskies of Bloomsburg University were just too much for the Lady Rams to handle in the second game of a softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Civitan Park in Winston-Salem, NC as WSSU fell in defeat 12-2 after a fifth-inning, two-out, grand slam by Dee Wolfe capped a six-run inning that earned the Lady Huskies a two-game sweep of WSSU.
Wolfe, who had already driven in a run earlier in the game, came plateward with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fifth inning as she ran the count to 2-1 before crushing a Shannon Davis offering to left-center field that earned her her second, third, fourth and fifth RBI's of the afternoon.
The Wolfe grand slam increased Bloomsburg's lead to 12-2 and locked up the game's final outcome.
The Lady Rams would record only two hits in the game as L'Tisha Bell and SaRhonda Hawkins each tallied a lone hit. However, WSSU would tally two runs on those two hits as they avoided the shutout.
Jen Probst got the win for Bloomsburg as she pitched three innings, giving up two hits and two runs, while striking out six. She was relieved by Sheelin Fisher who pitched two scoreless innings while picking up four strikeouts.
SaRhonda Hawkins started the game on the mound for WSSU but was replaced by Shannon Davis after only two-thirds of an inning of work. Davis surrendered seven hits and 10 runs in 4.1 innings while picking up a lone strikeout.
WSSU falls to 0-8 with the loss while the Huskies improve to 4-0 overall. WSSU returns to action on Friday, March 11th as they play host to Saint Paul's College in a CIAA softball doubleheader.
