Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team earned their first win of the 2005 season on Friday afternoon as they cruised to an easy 12-4 win over the visiting Lady Tigers of Saint Paul's College in CIAA softball action from Civitan Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
The Lady Rams, who entered the contest with an 0-8 record overall, benefited from seven strong innings of work from SaRhonda Hawkins who pitched a complete game, giving up only four runs in the process.
The win, the first of the season for WSSU, snaps an eight-game losing skid and moves the Lady Rams to 1-0 in the CIAA. SaRhonda Hawkins improves to 1-6 on the season with the win.
The two teams will return to the diamond at 2:00 PM to play the second game of the twin-bill.
