Lady Rams Take 18-4 Loss to Gardner Webb in Game Two

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-16) got back on the scoring track, but not enough to avoid an 18-3 loss to the Gardner Webb Bulldogs (21-14).  Though the team bounced back from a scoreless outing in game one of the double-header to score three runs, the squad was hampered by a pair of big innings by the visitors.

The Lady Rams opened the game on a bad note, falling behind 8-1 after the first inning. The team got going on the defensive end holding GWU to just four runs over the next two innings, but gave up five more runs in the fourth inning to fall behind, 17-1. The team did score a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but were never able to get back into the contest. Gardner Webb would score one more run to finish the game with the 18-3 loss.

Sophomore outfielder Domica Scott led the way for the Lady Rams with an RBI and a run scored in the contest. Sophomore first baseman Leslie Hollis had the best day from the plate going two-for-three with a double. Freshman Devyn Gillette, and sophomore pitcher Amber Shore each went 1-for-2 from the plate as well. She added her fourth double of the season as well.

Shore took the loss in the game pitching all five innings of the contest with four strikeouts.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday when they take part in the Lady Pirate Classic Tournament hosted by Hampton University.
