WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The week-long rest did no favors for the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-15), Wednesday afternoon as the team took an 8-0 loss to the Gardner Webb Bulldogs (20-14) at South Park Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Lady Rams struggled to just their second no-hit loss of the season and just the second shutout loss for the team this season.

Despite the team's struggles from the plate, the Lady Rams played some strong defense in the game, but fell victim to some big innings by the Bulldogs. WSSU kept the game close in the early going taking a 0-0 tie through the first two innings of play. However, Gardner Webb would break into the scoring column in the third inning on a GWU home run, the first of three for the visitors. The Lady Rams kept the game close through the next two innings allowed just three more Gardner Webb runs, but the team gave up three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the loss.  

Freshman pitcher Ashley Boswell pitched a solid game for the Lady Rams going six innings allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits. Though the team struggled in game one of the double-header, the team had a chance to rebound in game two twenty minutes later.
