Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Hampton University Lady Pirates scored four runs in the first inning as they pounded out nine hits en route to defeating the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University by the score of 7-4 in the first game of the 2006 Lady Pirate Softball Invitational from Hampton, VA on Friday afternoon.

Hampton's Amanda Black pitched a complete-game five-hitter as she allowed only four earned runs, striking out two and only walking two as she collected her second win of the season.

WSSU's Amber Shore pitched a complete-game nine-hitter as she allowed seven runs, all of them earned, in the loss.  She tallied six strike-outs and allowed only seven walks.

The Lady Rams trailed Hampton 7-1 headed into the bottom of the seventh inning where WSSU recorded three runs, eventually falling in defeat by the game's final margin of three runs. 

With the loss the Lady Rams fall to 8-10 on the season (6-0 CIAA, 2-0 CIAA West) while Hampton improves to 11-11 overall with the win.

The two teams will return to action in the afternoon in the final pair of games of first-day action.  WSSU will face the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore while the Lady Pirates will face the Lady Bears of Morgan State.
