Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams' softball team lost a 9-1 decision in five innings to Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon at Southpark Field in the first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader.
The Lady Rams managed only two hits in the game, earning one run in the process. However, WSSU gave up 11 hits and nine runs in the contest, one that they would ultimately lose 9-1.
The Lady Rams were led by L'Tisha Bell and Jennifer Jones-Cockerham who tallied one hit each in the contest. IUP was led by lead-off hitter Becky Lewis who tallied three hits in the game and drove home two runs in four at-bats.
Recording her first win of the season and improving to 1-3-1 overall was IUP pitcher Sarah Knill. Being saddled with the loss was the Lady Rams' Heather Davis (Sr./Detroit, MI). With the loss she falls to 3-5 on the season, as she has made all eight starts for the Lady Rams in 2004.
With the win IUP improves to 7-8 overall while the Lady Rams fall to 3-5 overall with the loss. The two teams will square off against one another in the second game of a doubleheader at 2:00 pm.
