Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams' softball team was swept by Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon when they fell in defeat in the second game of a doubleheader by the score of 12-1. IUP earned the sweep as they defeated WSSU 9-1 in the first game and 12-1 in the second contest.
The first inning was unkind to the Lady Rams as starting pitcher Heather Davis (Sr./Detroit. MI) gave up a bases loaded triple to IUP catcher Julie Cash that scored three of IUP's four first-inning runs. The triple would be the first of Cash's two triples in the game en route to a four RBI game.
Then, in the bottom half of the inning, the Lady Rams would have three runners on base with two outs and fail to capitalize when Toyia Vaughn lined out to center field to end the WSSU scoring threat keeping the Lady Ram deficit at four runs.
IUP would earn three more runs in the second inning, a lone run in the third, two in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth en route to the 12-1 victory in only five innings.
Earning the win for IUP was Amber Pangallo who improves to 3-1 on the season. Recording the loss was WSSU's Heather Davis who falls to 3-6 on the season and has pitched all nine games for the Lady Rams.
With the win IUP improves to 8-8 overall while the Lady Rams fall to 3-6 overall with the loss. IUP returns to action tomorrow as they face the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. The Lady Rams return to action on Sunday, March 21st when they travel to Lawrenceville, VA to face the Lady Tigers of St. Paul's College at 12:00 pm.
