Bowie, MD - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team fell in defeat by the narrowest of margins on Saturday afternoon in Bowie, MD as the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University defeated WSSU 8-7 in the first game of a CIAA softball league doubleheader.
WSSU would get on the board first as the Lady Rams recorded a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The lead was one that the Lady Rams would keep until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Lady Bulldogs turned in a trio of runs that tied the game at 5-5.
The contest would be tied for the remainder of the regulation play as the two teams needed an eighth and final inning to decide the game's final outcome.
The Lady Bulldogs would drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the game's 8th inning of play to record the 8-7 win.
Shannon Davis pitched 7.2 strong innings for the Lady Rams, surrendering seven hits and eight runs (all eight being earned). Davis recorded three strike outs while walking nine batters.
Earning the win for the Lady Bulldogs was J. Willey who pitched a complete-game ten-hitter. Willey recorded 10 strikeouts in the contest while walking only four batters.
The two teams return to action later in the afternoon for the second game of the twin bill.
