Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Rams softball team won their sixth consecutive game on Thursday afternoon when they defeated the St. Augustine's College Lady Falcons in the second game of a CIAA league doubleheader by the score of 10-7 at Southpark Field. The Lady Rams, who improve to a perfect 6-0 in the CIAA (2-0 Western Division) with the win, tallied 10 runs on 16 hits in the contest.
The first inning of play in the second game of a doubleheader between the visiting Lady Falcons of St. Augustine's College and the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University saw the two teams pick up where game one had ended as the Falcons' hot bats enabled them to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.
The Falcons used a pair of hits to score two runs in the top of the first inning and jump out ahead of the host-team Lady Rams as they looked to avenge a game-one loss. The Lady Rams, despite earning a pair of base-runners, failed to generate any runs in the first inning and would head to the second frame staring at a two run deficit.
The Lady Rams finally got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as LaKelsha Carney powered a single to left center field to advance SaRhonda Hawkins to third base where she took advantage of a fielding error and scored easily, trimming the WSSU deficit to a single run. However, the inning would see the Lady Rams strand two additional base-runners and ended with WSSU continuing to trail the Lady Falcons by the score of 2-1.
The Lady Rams' offense finally awoke in the bottom of the fourth inning of play as SaRhonda Hawkins doubled to left field, driving in two runs as Toyia Vaughn and Tamika Ferguson crossed home plate, and then she herself scored on an error by the Lady Falcons' left-fielder to put WSSU ahead by the score of 4-2. At the conclusion of the inning, the Lady Rams would hold a two-run cushion as they looked towards a possible series sweep.

With the victory, the Lady Rams improve to 9-6 overall (6-0 CIAA) and 2-0 in the CIAA Western Division while the Lady Falcons fall to 8-6 overall on the season (8-5 CIAA) and 5-3 in the Western Division.
