BALTIMORE, MD - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (5-21) used their heads to score five unearned runs in a win 5-3 win over the Morgan State Lady Bears, Wednesday afternoon. After taking a 3-3 tie into the seventh inning, the Lady Rams showed their mettle scoring a pair of seventh inning runs to pull out the victory.
The Lady Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when freshman shortstop Whitney Hall drove in three runs on a base clearing double that drove in three runs. Morgan State was able to battle back scoring a run in the fifth inning and adding a pair of sixth inning runs to tie the game setting the stage for the Lady Rams to pull out the dramatic win. It was the WSSU freshmen who keyed the win as WSSU freshman Tierra Berthau hit a seventh inning single that brought in the winning run as well as an insurance run for the Lady Rams.
Another WSSU freshman Ashley Boswell pitched the Lady Rams to the win pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. Sophomore Amber Shore also pitched two innings in the game giving up just one hit and no runs.
The two teams would meet up in the night cap immediately after the game.
