April 2, 2008

Box Score

DURHAM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (15-12) broke out the offense in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader when the Lady Rams defeated the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles (3-32), 9-0. As a team, the Lady Rams hammered 13 hits in the game, including five extra base hits in the win.

As a team, the Lady Rams totaled 13 hits in the game with five Lady Rams recording two hits each in the game. Junior infielder Kendall Sutton did the majority of the damage with four RBI in the game, including hitting a game-winning triple that drove in the eighth and ninth runs of the game. WSSU sophomore pitcher Ashley Boswell dominated the competition in the circle as she allowed just three hits to the home team. She also recorded six strikeouts in the win as well.

The Lady Rams got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first two innings of the game. Sutton and infielder Desiree Ramiz opened the inning with back-to-back extra-base hits and crossed the plate to give the Lady Rams two of their three runs of the innings. The team would score one more run in the fourth inning before setting up a big sixth inning. After loading the bases, Sutton would hit a base-clearing triple that put the game away for the Lady Rams and capped the day with the 9-0 WSSU victory.

The Lady Rams will return to action this weekend when the team heads to nearby Greensboro, NC to take on the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies in a weekend series. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Lady Aggie Field on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday.
