Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Catamounts of Western Carolina University scored nine runs over six innings of play as they handed the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University a 9-1 defeat at Southpark Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.

WSSU starting pitcher Ashley Boswell (Richmond, VA/Godwin H.S.) pitched the first four innings of contest, surrendering six hits and six runs (four earned) as she picked up her 12th loss of the season, falling to 3-12 overall on the season.

The Catamounts started the contest with a pair of runs, both un-earned, as a pair of fielding errors netted Western Carolina two runs.

Following Boswell's four innings of work, WSSU head softball coach LaTaya Hilliard-Gray called upon Amber Shore (Yadkinville, NC/Starmount H.S.) who pitched two innings and surrendered the final three WCU runs of the contest.

WSSU's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning as Boswell singled up the middle to score Devyn Gillette (Columbia, SC/Irmo H.S.) from second base.  The Lady Rams mounted no further offense following the Boswell RBI single as WCU cruised to the win, their second victory of the season over WSSU.

Savannah Filley (Crossville, TN/Daytona Beach C.C.) pitched a complete-game for the Catamounts as she improved to 3-4 on the season with the win.  Filley surrendered only one run in the contest while striking out five Lady Rams.

The loss drops WSSU to 8-24 on the season while WCU improves to 16-22 on the year with the victory.

The two teams return to the diamond at 4:00 pm as they square off in the second game of the non-conference softball doubleheader.
