WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Catamounts of Western Carolina University scored nine runs over six innings of play as they handed the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University a 9-1 defeat at Southpark Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.
WSSU starting pitcher Ashley Boswell (Richmond, VA/Godwin H.S.) pitched the first four innings of contest, surrendering six hits and six runs (four earned) as she picked up her 12th loss of the season, falling to 3-12 overall on the season.
The Catamounts started the contest with a pair of runs, both un-earned, as a pair of fielding errors netted

WSSU's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning as Boswell singled up the middle to score Devyn Gillette (
Savannah Filley (Crossville, TN/Daytona Beach C.C.) pitched a complete-game for the Catamounts as she improved to 3-4 on the season with the win. Filley surrendered only one run in the contest while striking out five Lady Rams.
The loss drops WSSU to 8-24 on the season while WCU improves to 16-22 on the year with the victory.
The two teams return to the diamond at 4:00 pm as they square off in the second game of the non-conference softball doubleheader.
