Lady Rams Get Even With Shaw; Win Second Game Of Doubleheader 9-5

April 5, 2004

Box Score

Raleigh, NC - Teams have had a hard time keeping the WSSU softball team's bats quiet this season, as the offensive-minded Lady Rams can put runs on the scoreboard in a hurry and have come from behind in five games thus far in 2004. The Lady Rams would not need to come from behind in the second game of a CIAA doubleheader on Monday as they never trailed the Shaw University Lady Bears en route to an early 6-0 lead that turned into a 9-5 win that helped WSSU split a pair of games with Shaw in Raleigh, NC.

The Lady Rams tallied six hits, two of them for extra bases, and were the beneficiaries of an astounding seven Shaw University errors as they cruised to the win. WSSU, who fell 10-2 in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader, rebounded nicely as they improved to 15-1 in the CIAA and 18-7 overall.

WSSU was led by lead-off hitter L'Tisha Bell who collected a pair of hits (one single, and one double) and scored a run in the game.

Earning the win for WSSU was Amber Nance who remained a perfect 5-0 on the season (5-0 CIAA) by giving up only five runs on eight hits while striking out five Lady Bear batters.

WSSU stays atop the overall CIAA standings as they hand the Lady Bears their second conference loss of 2004 (14-2) and drop Shaw to 14-13 overall.

WSSU returns to action on Tuesday, April 6th, 2004 at 4:00 when they will journey to nearby Charlotte, NC to face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in a pair of CIAA Western Division softball contests.
