JCSU Scores Three Runs In Top Of 7th Inning To Defeat WSSU 6-5
April 5, 2005
Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team would see a two-run cushion evaporate as the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University used a three-run seventh inning to earn a hard-fought 6-5 victory in game two of a CIAA softball league doubleheader from Southpark Field in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday afternoon.
WSSU senior pitcher Shannon Davis, who was pitching in her 24th consecutive inning (over the span of two days and four games) fell victim to fatigue and hot Golden Bull bats in the top of the seventh inning as she allowed three runs that propelled JCSU to the victory.
WSSU would head into the top of the seventh inning leading 5-3, but the three-run outburst would ultimately prove to be the Lady Rams' undoing as the visiting Lady Golden Bulls snuck out the series split with the 6-5 win.
The Lady Rams fall to 10-15 overall with the loss and will return to action at 3:00 PM on Thursday afternoon as they will travel to Fayetteville, NC to face arch-rival Fayetteville State University in a pair of CIAA softball contests.
