Fayetteville, NC - A four-run seventh inning propelled the Lady Rams to a CIAA softball victory over the Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos by the score of 7-5 in the first game of a CIAA doubleheader in Fayetteville, NC on Thursday afternoon.
WSSU would get off to a slow start in the game as the Lady Broncos tallied four runs over the first two innings of play (three in the first, one in the second) en route to an early lead.
It would take the Lady Rams until the fourth inning of play to remove the zero from the scoreboard as WSSU recorded three runs in the fourth frame to close their deficit to one run with three innings to play.
The Lady Broncos added their final run of the game in the bottom-half of the sixth inning as they increased their lead to 5-3 with three outs standing between themselves and the victory.
That is when the Lady Rams' offense would awaken and roar to life. WSSU would belt only two hits in the inning, yet would be the beneficiary of a pair of FSU errors en route to the four runs that would ultimately propel the Lady Rams to a victory.
FSU would mount no challenge in the bottom half of the inning as Shannon Davis would pick up her eighth win of the season, moving to 8-7 overall. Davis would be saddled with five runs on eight hits, while striking out a pair of FSU batters, walking only three. The win is Davis' eighth overall as she records her 13th complete-game of the year.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 11-15 overall and move to 11-7 in the CIAA.
The two teams will return to action at 6:00 PM when they will face off in the second and final game of the scheduled doubleheader.
