Lady Rams Fall To Elizabeth City State 3-0 In Game One Of Two

April 9, 2004

Box Score

Elizabeth City, NC - The Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University handed the Lady Rams their second CIAA loss of the season on Friday afternoon as they defeated WSSU by the score of 3-0 in the first of a pair of CIAA league softball contests in Elizabeth City, NC.

The Lady Rams, who had lost only one CIAA game prior to their matchup with ECSU were without the services of starting catcher and two time All-CIAA selection Shannon Davis, as well as starting first baseman LeAndrea Suggs who were both in Houston, TX competing for the first ever NCAA Women's Bowling National Championship. With the depleted roster and quiet bats, WSSU would ultimately fall to ECSU.

The Lady Rams started off shaky as ECSU got runs in only the first and second inning before being shut down. However, the three runs are all that the Lady Vikings would need, as they earned the victory.

Saddled with the loss was Heather Davis who falls to 13-8 on the season. Davis pitched a four hitter, but the pair of errors helped the Lady Vikings to earn three runs on four hits and hand Davis and the Lady Rams the loss.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 20-8 overall and 17-2 in the CIAA. However, WSSU remains undefeated in the CIAA Western Division as they look towards a possible #1 seed in next weekend's CIAA Softball Championship and yet another CIAA Western Division regular-season crown.

The two teams return to action at 4:30 pm when they will face off in the second of a pair of CIAA league softball contests.
