Banner Elk, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team fell in defeat to the Lady Bobcats of Lees-McRae College on Wednesday afternoon in Banner Elk, NC by the score of 8-2 in a rain-shortened game that lasted just over five innings.
Shannon Davis was saddled with the loss in the contest as she dropped her overall record to 8-9 in 2005. She was hit with six earned runs on 11 hits as WSSU committed a trio of errors in the game.
The Lady Rams would record a pair of runs in the early-going as they looked to be in contention to earn a rain-soaked victory. However, the host-team Lady Bobcats used a steady offensive effort to secure the 8-2 win.
The rain would fall steadily throughout the contest before opening up a torrential downpour midway through the fifth inning, prompting the calling of the game, and the cancellation of the second game of the doubleheader.
Pursuant to NCAA rules, the game will count as an official contest as five innings had been completed, thus dropping the Lady Rams to 11-17 on the season.
WSSU returns to action on Friday, April 15th, 2005 at 3:00 PM as they host Claflin College in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader.
