WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (10-27) took 14-1 loss to the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles (27-9), Saturday afternoon. Some WSSU struggles in the field and at the plate cost the team in the loss.
The Lady Rams ran into some struggles early allowing six NCCU runs in the first inning. Though the team was able to battle back, holding the Lady Eagles scoreless in the second inning, the Lady Rams would go on to allow eight more unanswered runs to the Lady Eagles, including three runs in both the third and fourth inning. The Lady Rams would break the scoring seal in the bottom of the fifth and final inning when freshman Devyn Gillette hit an RBI single that drove in pitcher Ashley Boswell.
Sophomore Amber Shore (6-14) took the loss, pitching three innings with nine runs scored on eight hits. Freshman Ashley Boswell pitched a pair of innings allowing five runs on three hits. Sophomore Stacey Greene got the win for the Lady Eagles pitching all five innings and allowing three hits and one earned run.
The Lady Rams will return to action on the road when they take on Maryland-Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland next Saturday before heading to Norfolk, Virginia when they take on the Norfolk State Lady Spartans in a Sunday doubleheader.
