Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University easily handed the Lady Rams a 14-1 defeat in the first game of a CIAA league softball doubleheader at South Park Field in Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Rams, who were coming off of a 12-7 loss to Claflin College on Friday afternoon, looked to try to rebound versus the Lady Eagles, and looked to secure another important CIAA league victory in the process. However, the Lady Eagles had other plans as they jumped out to an early lead by scoring six runs in the first inning, en route to the win.
The early 6-0 lead is one that NCCU would never relinquish as the Lady Eagles held WSSU to only one run in the contest as Toyia Vaughn would be the only WSSU base-runner to cross home plate.
The loss drops WSSU to 11-19 overall and 11-9 in the CIAA. WSSU's Shannon Davis was saddled with the loss as she drops her season record to 8-11.
The two teams return to action at 3:00 PM for the second game of the doubleheader.
