Winston-Salem, NC - They had to wait over a month due to inclement weather, but the Lady Rams' softball team swept the second game of a CIAA doubleheader from the Lady Tigers of Saint Paul's College by the score of 11-3 at Southpark Field in Winston-Salem, NC on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Rams and Lady Tigers picked the game up in the middle of the second inning as they were resuming a game from March 11th, 2005 that was postponed due to a torrential downpour that opened up only 21 minutes into the contest.
When the game was postponed in March, the Lady Rams were holding a 4-2 advantage over the visiting Lady Tigers. WSSU would immediately add to that lead on Sunday afternoon as the Lady Rams tacked on another pair of runs in the bottom half of the second inning en route to a 6-2 lead that they would never relinquish.
WSSU added three more runs in the third inning, and two more in the fifth to evoke the NCAA eight-run rule and earn the win.
Shatel Langley led the way for the Lady Rams with a pair of hits in the game as all but three WSSU players would record at least one hit in the contest.
WSSU's Shannon Davis earned the win as she pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out five and walking only four as she gave up only one earned run. With the win she improves to 9-11 overall on the season.
WSSU moves to 12-20 on the season and 7-5 in the CIAA as they complete the regular-season and now look towards this weekend's CIAA championship.
The Lady Rams will return to action in Petersburg, VA this weekend as they attempt to capture another CIAA softball championship.
