Lady Rams Shut Out Howard in 2-0 Win

April 18, 2008

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (16-21) made the most of their five hits in a 2-0 win over the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champion Howard Lady Bison (13-13), Friday. The team held the champs scoreless and pulled the win on a pair of late runs.

The Lady Rams opened scoring in the contest with a pair of back-to-back fifth inning doubles. The second double by WSSU sophomore Ashley Boswell drove in WSSU junior Leslie Hollis to put the team ahead 1-0. The Lady Rams would add an insurance run in the seven inning when a Hollis RBI sacrifice fly drove in sophomore Devyn Gillette.

Hollis had the big day for the Lady Rams, going 1-for-2 from the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Devyn Gillette was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the win.

WSSU sophomore pitcher Ashley Boswell (7-4) picked up the win, allowing five hits with three strikeouts in the game.

The Lady Rams will have a long weekend ahead of them as they will take on the Coppin State Lady Eagles on Saturday, followed by a Sunday doubleheader at Morgan State.
