Lady Rams Take 5-2 Loss to Morgan State in Shortened Game

April 20, 2008

Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (18-22) had their three-game win streak snapped by a 5-2 loss to the Morgan State Lady Bears Sunday morning. The game was called in the fifth inning due to lightning in the area and ended the Lady Rams' bid for their fourth straight win two innings early.

After compiling nearly 40 hits in yesterday's doubleheader against Coppin State, the Lady Rams were held to just five hits against the Lady Bears, Sunday. WSSU freshman outfielder Candace Spinks was the only Lady Ram to get more than one hit in the game, going 2-for-3 from the plate with a run scored. Fellow freshman Bonika Terry drove in a pair of runs in the game with her sole hit of the day.

The Lady Rams got off to a slow start, allowing four runs to the Lady Bears in the first inning. The team got on the scoreboard in the third inning when Terry hit a two-RBI double drove in Spinks and junior pitcher Amber Shore. The two runs were all that the Lady Rams could score. After allowing one more run fourth inning run to the Lady Bears, both teams would go scoreless until the game was ended in the fifth inning.

WSSU junior Amber Shore (9-13) took the loss for the Lady Rams, pitching all five innings. She allowed just six hits and five earned runs in the game.

The Lady Rams will return to action this weekend when the team hosts the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs in a weekend home series. The Lady Rams and Lady Bulldogs will square off in a Saturday doubleheader 1:00 p.m. doubleheader and a noon single game on Sunday.
