Final Stats

Petersburg, VA - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University and the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University were both eliminated from the 2005 CIAA Softball Championships on Thursday afternoon as they both suffered their second consecutive loss in the double elimination tournament. The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University were both victorious as the two teams move on to Friday's third round play.

After falling in defeat to the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University by the score of 14-9 in the first round of play, the Lady Rams would face off against the top-seeded Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University who were upset by Elizabeth City State in the championship's opening round.

Coming off of the loss, the Lady Eagles wasted no time in turning things around as they easily blanked the Lady Rams by the score of 8-0. The win propels the Lady Eagles into Friday's action as they will face the winner of the Elizabeth City State versus Virginia State University contest. The first pitch is slated for 10:00 AM. With the loss, the Lady Rams finish the season with an overall record of 12-22.

In the second game of the second-round loser's-bracket, the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University fell in defeat to Bowie State University by the score of 14-8 as BSU now advances to face the winner of the Shaw University Lady Bears versus Fayetteville State University contest. The first pitch for that contest is also slated for 10:00 AM.

As of press time, the winner's bracket matches between Fayetteville State and Shaw, and Elizabeth City State and Virginia State had not been completed due to rain. Future updates will be posted on the official website of the CIAA Spring Championships at www.THECIAA.com
