PETERSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team defeated the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings by the score of 9-1 on Friday afternoon at the Petersburg Sports Complex in Petersburg, VA to set up a do-or-die match-up against Bowie State University at 5:30 pm in the consolation bracket of the 2006 CIAA Women's Softball Championship.
The Lady Rams, behind the third consecutive complete-game effort from pitcher Amber Shore, defeated the Lady Vikings 9-1 in only five innings, eliminating them from the 2006 CIAA Softball Championships in a game which WSSU never trailed.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 22-19 overall on the season (17-5 CIAA) and in turn keep their hopes alive for a CIAA Softball Championship in 2006.
The Lady Rams advance to play Bowie State University at 5:30 pm following BSU's loss to unbeaten North Carolina Central University. The Lady Bulldogs fell to NCCU following a five-run second inning that led to a 5-2 defeat.
The Lady Rams and Lady Bulldogs will face off in an elimination-bracket meeting with the winner advancing to play NCCU and the loser going home.
