WSSU Takes 13-5 Loss to Bethune-Cookman in Season Finale

April 28, 2007

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - It was a bittersweet situation when the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (12-31) took a 13-5 loss to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (21-30) in the team's 2007 season finale. The Lady Rams were powerful notching 11 hits in the loss, but were held scoreless for the final three innings of the game while allowing eight unanswered runs to the Lady Wildcats.

The game turned out to be a hitting duel with the two teams combining for 27 hits. After falling behind 4-2 in the first two innings, the Lady Rams tied the game at 5-5 with a three-run effort in the bottom of the third inning. However, it was there that the team's efforts would fall short as the Lady Rams allowed eight more Bethune-Cookman runs to seal the loss.

WSSU sophomore first baseman Leslie Hollis led the way for the Lady Rams going 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of runs scored, including forcing a B-CC error that scored a pair of WSSU runs in the third inning and tying the game. Freshman centerfielder Devyn Gillette added a pair of hits as well with an RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Sophomore Amber Shore (7-16) took the loss for the Lady Rams pitching four and one-third innings, allowing nine earned runs. Freshman Ashley Boswell finished the game pitching one and two-thirds innings allowing just one earned run in the game.

With the loss, the Lady Rams end the 2007 season with a 12-31 overall record. The team will lose just one senior, however, as senior utility player L'Tisha Bell played in her final game as a Lady Ram.
