WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem State University softball player Elyon Taylor (Fr./Detroit, MI) has been named the Crown Trophy WSSU Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2006 for her performance on the diamond over the past seven days as announced by the WSSU Office of Sports Information on Tuesday.
Taylor, a freshman catcher and utility infielder from Detroit, MI turned in a stellar performance over the weekend as the Lady Rams played three games in the 2006 Claflin University Softball Invitational.
Taylor collected five hits in 10 at-bats with a pair of doubles, a pair of runs-batted-in and a pair of runs scored for a team-high batting average of .500. Taylor tallied seven total bases on the weekend as she turned in a slugging percentage of .700 and was successful on both of her stolen base attempts.
Defensively, Taylor turned in a fielding percentage of .750 with a lone put-out, a pair of assists and only one error. For her efforts over the weekend, Taylor has been named the Crown Trophy-WSSU Female Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Lady Rams return to action on February 17, 2006 as they host the Pirates of Hampton University in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Civitan Park. The Lady Rams will take to the diamond at 1:00 pm for the first game with the second game slated to start 30 minutes after the completion of the first contest.
