WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-6) will face a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes in double-header action this weekend when they face the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks on Saturday, followed by a Sunday double-header against the Howard Lady Bison (1-3) at South Park Field. The Lady Rams have struggled to find hits early this season with a .253 team batting average thus far as opposed to last season's .322 batting average from last season. However, the squad has been playing solid at home batting .262 with 14 of their 21 total runs this season. Senior outfielder L'Tisha Bell will lead the way for the Lady Rams with her team best .353 batting average and two RBI. Sophomore infielder Kendall Sutton is also solid with a .333 batting average and a team-high four RBI this season.
Saturday's game will be the season opener for the Lady Hawks who finished the 2006 season with a 5-42 overall record and a 0-13 record in MEAC play. The struggled to find offense batting .183 as a team with just 84 runs scored. They do return one of their top hitters in sophomore utility Kendra Saunders, who batted .365 with a team high 23 RBI. The Lady Hawks and Lady Bison will not be the only foes that the team will face as they will have to battle 59 degree temperatures on Saturday and a 90% chance of precipitation on Sunday. Both double-headers are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at South Park Field. Admission to the games is free.
