GREENSBORO, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-8) will have a big weekend ahead of them when they head to the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggie Invitational Tournament. The team will take part in a rematch of last weekend's battle against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore as well as a meeting with Triad rival North Carolina A&T. The tournament consists of round robin play on the first two days followed by a Sunday championship and consolation round.
The Lady Rams will first take on the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Alabama State Lady Hornets (5-7) in a 10:00 a.m. meeting on Friday. Heading into the game, the Lady Hornets has posted wins over fellow SWAC foes Grambling and Jackson State. Leading the way for Alabama State will be junior outfielder April O'Neal and her .385 batting average. She also leads the team with 11 RBI. Following that game, the Lady Rams will face a familiar foe, Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-1). The two teams met last Saturday, splitting a double header. The Lady Hawks fought off the Lady Rams for a 5-4 win in game one, but WSSU battled back in the second game posting a 10-0 win in game two. The two teams will meet for the third time on Friday at noon.
On Saturday, the Lady Rams will take local rival North Carolina A&T in a battle of Triad teams. The two teams will meet for the first time on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. North Carolina A&T heads into the weekend with two wins in their last five outings. However, the team has posted wins over Bucknell, Eastern Kentucky, and Rutgers. Freshman infielder Yahamma White leads the way for the Lady Rams with a .410 batting average and 11 runs scored.
Saturday will be a big day for the Lady Rams when they take on I-40 rival North Carolina A&T. The two teams will meet for the first time in a number of years in spite of the close vicinity of the two teams. This season, the Lady Aggies have gotten out to a 3-7 start to the 2007 season, including wins over Eastern Kentucky, Bucknell, and Rutgers. Freshman infielder Yahamma White leads the way for the Lady Aggies with 10 starts and a team best .410 RBI.
The Lady Rams will open the North Carolina A&T Invitational Tournament on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a noon match-up against Maryland-Eastern Shore. The team will face North Carolina A&T in a 10:00 a.m. match-up on Saturday. The championship and consolation round of the tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
