WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (8-23) have been hot lately winning four of six games last week and will look to stay that way when they face the Western Carolina Catamounts (15-22) in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader. The Lady Rams will have no easy task when they face a Catamounts squad that has also posted four wins in their last six games, but have lost two of their last three games.
The Lady Rams will head into Tuesday's game on the heels of a doubleheader sweep of the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs on Saturday that saw the team stage a pair of late inning rallies to pull out the victories. It has been the WSSU freshmen that have keyed the team's recent surge with freshman pitcher Ashley Boswell leading the team in batting average (.340) while fellow freshmen Devyn Gillette and Whitney Hall have also been strong of late. Both players are tied for second on the team with nine RBI each this season. Hall also leads the team with three stolen bases this season. Sophomore pitcher Amber Shore currently leads the team with 12 RBI and a home run this season.
Across the field, however, will be a strong Catamounts squad that is coming off of a 6-0 win at Elon, Sunday. The team took a pair of losses to the Phoenix one day earlier, but rebounded for the win. The Catamounts are a hard-hitting team with seven players batting over .300. Sophomore third-baseman Stephanie Beatty leads the way for the Catamounts with a .366 batting average and a team-high five home runs. She is also the team leader in RBI with 24. Junior pitcher Savannah Filley is second on the team with a .333 batting average and 23 RBI. Sophomore Lauren Ross is the team's leading pitcher with a 3.01 ERA.
The Lady Rams and Catamounts are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at South Park Field in Winston-Salem, NC. Admission to the game is free.
