HAMPTON, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) released the seeds and pairing for the 2006 Women's Softball Championship on Wednesday afternoon and the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University will face the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University at 12:00 PM on Thursday in opening-round play.
The Lady Rams, who finished the regular season with a 19-18 overall record and a 17-5 mark in the CIAA (7-3 Western Division) earned the Western Division's third seed and will face the Eastern Division's second-seeded Lady Trojans of Virginia State University who amassed a 13-16 record in the regular season, going 13-8 in the CIAA (7-3 Eastern Division).
The two teams met twice during the regular season with the Lady Rams earning victories in both games of a doubleheader played in Winston-Salem, NC on March 26, 2006.
The Lady Rams earned an 8-0 win in the first meeting between the two teams and capped the series sweep with a 10-3 win in the second game of the twin-bill.
The Lady Trojans and Lady Rams take to the diamond at 12:00 PM from the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA on Thursday. Format for the championships is a double-elimination, pool-play tournament.
