Lady Rams Softball Adds Three Signees

April 30, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams softball squad got a bit stronger with the addition of three signees to National Letters of Intent. Though still recruiting, WSSU head coach LaTaya Hilliard-Gray will welcome a crop of talented youngsters to the Lady Rams' squad.

The Lady Rams will add a pair of North Carolina talents to the squad with the addition of outfielder Candace Spinks and utility Kayla Woodbury. Spinks is well-decorated high schooler from Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur, North Carolina. An All-Conference, All-County, and team Best Offensive Player, will bring some great speed and the ability to bat from either side of the plate to the Lady Rams' squad. Woodbury, another talent from the Tar Heel State, will bring a strong arm and power hitting to the squad. She was an All-State and All-Conference utility player at North Surry High School in nearby Mount Airy, North Carolina. She played catcher, shortstop, first base, and leftfielder during her career.

Also signing with the Lady Rams was utility player Whitney Wright from Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. She was a part of a Monroe Community College team that won the 2006 NJCAA DIII National Championship.

The additions will help shore a Lady Rams' defensive efforts while making the team a more potent threat on offense in the near future. The team has just six more games to finish the 2007 season with road doubleheaders at Maryland-Eastern Shore and Norfolk State before wrapping up the season with a home doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman College two weeks from Saturday.
