WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (14-23) will wrap up the 2009 season with a weekend series against the Norfolk State Spartans (19-23) at South Park Field in downtown Winston-Salem, N.C. The Lady Rams will head into the weekend with a four-game winning streak and will look to close the 2009 on a high note.
The Lady Rams have been winners in their last four outings, but all have come away from friendly South Park Field. The team has turned up its defensive efforts, allowing just five runs in their last four games, including shutting out the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks nearly two weeks ago. Senior first baseman Leslie Hollis has been leading the charge for the Lady Rams this season with a team-high .355 batting average while fellow senior Amber Shore is close behind batting .309.
In a fitting manner, the senior pitching duo of Shore (11-15) and Elyon Taylor (3-8) are likely to start the two games on Saturday and will look to key the WSSU defense this weekend. Shore currently leads the WSSU pitching attack with a team-best 4.30 ERA and a team-high 155 strikeouts.
After Saturday's 1:00 p.m. doubleheader, the Lady Rams will close out the 2009 season with a Senior Day noon single game against the Spartans. The Lady Rams will honor the team's six seniors.
