Lady Rams to Face Indiana (Pa.) in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament

INDIANA, PA - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (29-11) will make their first post-season appearance when the team takes on the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks (33-6) in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Friday. After winning the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship and claiming the conference's automatic bid to the tournament, the eighth-seeded Lady Rams will make their first trip to the NCAA post-season and will look to work their way towards a national title.

The road ahead will be a tough one for the Lady Rams as the team will take on the region's top seed, the host Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks. The Crimson Hawks earned the region's top seed after going 33-6 for the season and winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title. The Crimson Hawks are 31-6 in the Atlantic Region and are the top seed in the tournament. The other opening-day game will feature fourth-seeded California (Pa.) (28-12) against fifth-seeded Kutztown (39-14).

The Lady Rams won't head into the tournament empty-handed, however, as the team is currently holding a 13-game winning streak with sophomore pitcher Brittany Lane (16-5) leading the way. For the season, Lane has totaled a 1.88 ERA with 205 strikeouts. Senior catcher Kayla Woodbury has also been strong this season, batting a team-high .441 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI.

The NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament follows a double-elimination format. With a win, the Lady Rams will advance to the second round of the tournament to take on the winner of Friday's other game. With a loss, the Lady Rams will remain to face loser of Friday's other game. After Friday and Saturday, the regional tournament will close with a Sunday championship match.

The two teams are scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start at Podbielski Field in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Admission the game is $5 per day for adults, $3 per day for students/senior citizens, $2 for children ages 3-12 and free for children two and under.
