Lady Rams Take 5-0 Loss to Shaw in 2012 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship Match

PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (20-9) had their run at a second straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship when they took a 5-0 loss to the top-seeded Shaw Lady Bears, Saturday morning. Though the team gave a great effort, they were not able to put out the win against a talented Shaw team.

The Lady Rams opened the day on a down note with three doubles losses, falling 8-3, 8-3, and 8-0. With the doubles losses, the Lady Rams went into singles play, needing five wins to claim the championship. However, the wins would not come as losses at the #5 and #6 singles positions that ended the match.

With the loss, the Lady Rams will await a possible bid to the 2012 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament. For more information on Lady Rams tennis, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
