RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (13-7, 10-3 CIAA) took a tough 6-3 loss to the top-seeded Shaw Lady Bears (16-2, 11-0 CIAA), Monday afternoon. The Lady Rams gave it their all in the match, but the team could not quite get past the Lady Bears in the battle for first place in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division.
The Lady Rams opened the day with a slow start, going 1-3 in doubles play. The tandem of Taylor Harris and Carmen Grady combined to take an 8-0 doubles win to take the sole doubles win for the team. The duo carried their efforts into singles play where both recorded singles wins. Harris took a 6-2, 6-0 win while Grady added a 6-0, 6-0 win.
However, those were all that the Lady Rams could muster as the team took the 6-3 loss and fell to 10-3 in the CIAA and 6-2 in CIAA Southern Division play. The Lady Rams will return to action, Thursday when the team hosts Johnson C. Smith in a 2:00 p.m. match that will determine second place in the division.
