PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (16-9) took a hard-fought 5-3 loss to the top-seeded Shaw Lady Bears in the semifinal round of the 2013 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, Friday afternoon. The Lady Rams gave it their all and pushed their opponents at every turn, but came up just short in the tough match.
The Lady Rams picked up a win at #3 doubles, but fell short at #1 and #2 doubles to fall behind, 2-1 heading into singles play. The team made a run in singles play with junior Taylor Harris and sophomore Carmen Grady both taking singles wins. Harris took a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles while Grady took a 6-2, 6-0 win at #6 singles. The team could not overcome as losses at #1 and #2 singles to seal the loss for WSSU.
