CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-6, 4-3 CIAA) kept their momentum going when the team took an impressive 9-0 win over the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (1-3, 1-3 CIAA), Saturday at the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up. The win was the third straight for the surging Rams who have found a solid groove for themselves recently.
The Rams controlled the match from the very beginning with some impressive doubles play followed by some equally impressive singles play. The Rams opened the day with a great doubles effort. The Rams got things started on a high note when senior Gabrielle Lindsay and junior Aja Grant took an 8-0 win at #1 doubles while junior Alexus Morgan and sophomore China Brown matched the feat with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. Junior Zakia Spencer and freshman Cylah Gaither capped things off with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles to put the Rams ahead 3-0 heading into singles play.
The momentum didn't slow down for the Rams in singles play as the team continued their impressive performance. The Rams took 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1, #2, and #3 singles. The team would close things out with 6-0, 6-1 wins at #4, #5, and #6 singles to close out the 9-0 victory.
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-6 overall and an impressive 4-3 in CIAA play. The team would go on to take on the Virginia Union Lady Panthers later in the day.
