WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-9) gave a great effort, but the team came up short in a 9-0 loss to the Catawba Indians (13-10), Monday afternoon. The final score belied a great effort by the Rams, who battled for each point in the match.
The Rams got off to a slow start with three doubles losses. After taking an 8-0 loss at #3 doubles, the Rams took an 8-2 loss at #1 doubles before closing doubles play with an 8-3 loss at #2 doubles.
Heading into singles play with a 3-0 deficit, the Rams looked to battle back in singles play, but the team could not quite get the points they needed. The team took 6-0, 6-0 losses at #4, #5, and #6 singles. The Rams took a 6-2, 6-0 loss at #1 singles before taking a 6-2, 6-1 loss at #2 singles. The match ended when the Rams took a 6-1, 6-3 loss at #3 singles.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 6-9. The team will return to action, tomorrow when the team heads to Charlotte, N.C. for a critical Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match.
