Rams Take a 6-3 Loss at Averett

DANVILLE, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-2) gave a solid effort, but it was not enough as the Rams took a hard-fought 6-3 loss to the Averett University Cougars (3-1), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took straight losses in doubles play, but the team battled back for three singles wins to take the loss.

The Rams got off to a slow start to the game with three losses in doubles play. After taking a default loss at #3 doubles, the Rams fell 8-1 at #1 doubles and 8-4 at #2 doubles to fall behind 3-0.

In singles play, the Rams saw a better effort, but still could not surpass the Cougars. Singles play opened with a default loss at #6 singles play. However, the team responded with junior China Brown claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles before freshman Taylor Champion took a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles. Unfortunately, the Rams took losses at #1 and #3 singles to seal the hard-fought loss.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-2 overall this season. The team will return to action, on March 13th when the team heads to Fayetteville, N.C. to open Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play against the Broncos.
