WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-8, 9-4 CIAA) closed out the regular season in style when the team took a 7-2 Senior Day win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (1-12, 1-10 CIAA), Monday afternoon. The win marked a third straight regular season with a winning record for the Rams and provided a great send off as the team recognized its 2018 seniors.
The Rams began the win in a big way with some great performances in doubles play. The Rams took a forfeit loss at #3 doubles, but the team rebounded in a big way when senior Aja Grant and freshman Avion Harris took an 8-0 win at #2 doubles while senior Alexus Morgan and junior China Brown claimed an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
With their momentum going, the Rams rolled into singles player when the team took five of six wins. Once again, the Rams took a forfeit loss at #6 singles, but the team rolled in all five of the other matches. Morgan and Harris both took 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1 and #4 singles. Brown took a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles and sophomore Cylah Gaither took a 6-0, 6-2 win at #5 singles. Senior Aja Grant closed out the win with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #2 singles.
With the win, the Rams close the regular season with a 9-8 overall record and a 9-4 record in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will now await seeding for the 2018 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship Tournament in Bowie, Maryland this week.
