Rams Claim a Thrilling 4-3 Win Over Averett

 

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-5) came back in singles play to claim a 4-3 win over the Averett Cougars (5-3), Saturday afternoon. After losing the doubles point, the Rams got all four points in singles play to claim the victory.

The Rams got a slow start to the match as the duo of sophomore Cylah Gaither and freshman Kyra Akande were the only team to take a win in doubles play.

It was in singles play that the Rams stood out. After a loss at #1 singles, freshman Tamia Bennett took a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles. It was followed by a 6-1, 6-0 win by freshman Kyrsten Jennelle at #5 singles. After a loss at #4 singles left the Rams trailing, 3-2, the Rams got a 6-5, 6-3 win at #2 singles from sophomore Avion Harris to leave the score tied, 3-3. It was then that senior Tay'lor Champion sealed the win with a 6-5, 6-5 win at #2 singles.
