BOWIE, MD – The Winston-Salem State Rams (12-7) gave a valiant effort, but the team came up short in a 4-0 loss to the top-seeded Shaw Lady Bears (16-9), Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. Though the team's season came to an end, the team fought for every point in the tough loss.
The Rams got off to a slow start as they allowed the Lady Bears to claim a 1-0 lead in doubles play. The team took a 6-0 loss at #3 doubles before taking 6-1 loss at #1 doubles to give the Lady Bears the doubles point.
In singles play, the Rams made the Lady Bears work for every point, but the team could not pull out the win. The Rams took a 6-0, 6-0 loss at #5 singles that was followed by a 6-1, 6-1 loss at #2 singles. The match ended when the team took a 6-4 6-2 loss at #1 singles that ended the match and the team's season.
