Coach Schoderbek is heading into his sixth year as head coach for the men's and women's tennis programs where he has turned in coaching records of 3-56 (men's tennis) and 4-57 (women's tennis). Prior to being named head tennis coach at Winston-Salem State, he served as an assistant coach for two years. He also serves the University as the Aquatics Director and Pool Manager. In those capacities, he teaches all the aquatic classes along with being responsible for scheduling pool usage by area swim teams for practices and competitions.
Under his guidance, the Winston-Salem State University Rams and Lady Rams tennis program are continuing their growth and development as an NCAA Division I program and a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
He attended Eastern Alamance High School, Elon College/University, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught and coached several different sports in the NC Public School System for 24 years before coming to WSSU. He is certified as a Teaching Professional from the United States Professional Tennis Registry headquartered in Hilton Head, S.C. He has also been President of the Pilot Mountain Area Tennis Association for the past seven years where he organizes and teaches private lessons.
Coach Schoderbek is focused on taking the WSSU tennis programs to the next level through hard work and dedication. He is quoted as saying "I am truly excited to have the opportunity in working more closely with the Student-Athletes here at WSSU and want to use my real life experiences to mentor, motivate, and advise the Tennis teams allowing them to achieve even more".
He lives by the phrase, "The only place Success comes before Work, is in dictionary". Schoderbek has been married to his wife, Sharon, for 29 years. They have one daughter, Jordan, who attends UNC-Wilmington.
