ELON, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams tennis team fell to 0-1 on the season overall on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the Elon University Phoenix at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, NC in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match.
The Phoenix swept all three doubles points as Johanna Nunez and Terese Lavan were no match for Elon's Jenn Tucci and Hayley Wahl at first doubles who earned the 8-0 victory.
The Phoenix earned 8-0 sweeps at second and third doubles and started the match with the early lead, a lead that the Lady Rams would not be able to overcome.
The Phoenix earned sweeps at second and fifth singles as Elon cruised to 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victories.
WSSU's Johanna Nunez fell to Anna Milian 6-1, 6-2, Gabrielle Benjamin fell in defeat to Laura Graybill 6-0, 6-1 and Jessica Smith fell to Jessica Margolis 6-0, 6-1 in the three of the four matches that WSSU scored points.
WSSU's Laken Joyce had the most successful day at fourth singles where she posted a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Elon's Hayley Wall.
The loss drops the Lady Rams to 0-1 on the season while Elon moves to 1-2 overall with the win.
