Final Stats

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Charlotte 49ers men's and women's tennis teams swept a simultaneous doubleheader against visiting Winston-Salem State University at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex in Charlotte on Friday afternoon. Both UNCC teams prevailed 7-0 for their first dual match victories. The UNCC men improve to 1-4, while the women move to 1-2. Winston-Salem State's men fall to 0-1, while the Lady Rams women drop to 0-3.

 

The men gave up ten sets on the day in nine matches. The doubles pair of Jesse Hutchinson and Jeff Archer improved to a team-best 6-4 this season with an 8-2 win at number-one singles over Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter. The Bernhoerster brothers (senior Felix and freshman Moritz) got the chance to play together for the first time this year, dispatching Ryan Lindquist and Daren Milbourne 8-1 at number-three doubles.

 

In singles play, freshman Michael Anders, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, defeated Lindquist 6-0, 6-0 at number-two singles to improve to a team-best 4-1 in dual match play this year. Moritz Bernhoerster defeated Patrick Jenkins 6-0, 6-1 at number-five singles to push his dual match record to 3-2.

 

On the women's side, Charlotte lost only three sets in the nine matches to take the victory.

 

It was the first win in dual match play for each 49er on the tennis courts this season.

 

Ana Spivakovsky and Koren Fleming outpaced Shannon Loughran and Laken Joyce 8-2 at number-one doubles. In the other two spots, Candace Cunning ham and Yudeshnee Pillay, as well as Kimber Redfern and Yana Stoeva each went 8-0 in their doubles matches as all six Lady Rams singles players fell in defeat.

 

Both the WSSU men's and women's tennis teams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Conway, SC to face the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers.
