Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams earned a 6-3 match victory over their cross-town neighbor Salem College on Friday afternoon at the Salem College Tennis Complex to move to 1-0 overall on the season.
WSSU would drop both the first and second singles flights, but rebounded well by emerging victorious in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles flights to pull ahead 4-2 in the match.
Salem College's Ilia Owens and Jessica Nelson paired to defeat WSSU's Chandra Allen and Trinette Lewis in the first double flight to cut the Ram lead to 4-3 as they looked to mount a comeback.
However, the Lady Rams won the second and third doubles matches and secured the 6-3 win to move to 1-0 overall on the year.
WSSU will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they face North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, NC at 2:00 pm.
