Campbell Runs Win Streak to Seven with 7-0 Victory Over Winston-Salem State

BUIES CREEK, NC -- The Campbell women's tennis team dropped only five games in its 7-0 sweep of Winston-Salem State Saturday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
The win was the seventh-straight for the Lady Camels, who improved their record to 8-1.  while the Lady Rams fell to 0-6 on the year.

 

Scarlet Alfonzo earned both singles and doubles wins at the number-one spots.  She first teamed with freshman Blanca Saenz to earn an 8-1 victory, their sixth-straight in doubles.

Alfonzo then went on to claim a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top singles spot. With the win, the junior from Valencia, Venezuela improved her singles record to 9-5 on the year.

 


 

 

Junior Nina Surviladze and freshman Cortney Armitano did not drop any games in their singles victories at the three and five-spots respectively.  Surviladze's record improved to 10-2 on the year.

 

Tanya Ahuja claimed her fourth-straight singles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number-four.  The sophomore improved her singles mark to 9-2 for the 2006-07 year.

 

In the number-two singles match, freshman Ana Surviladze claimed her fourth-straight win with a 6-1, 6-2 decision.  The victory improved her singles record to 7-4.

 

Senior Iva Stojancev and sophomore Liza Bensimon picked up their fifth-straight doubles victory without dropping a game at number-two.

 

Campbell won the number-six singles and number-three doubles matches by default, as Winston-Salem State had only five active players.

 

The Lady Rams continue their spring season play Sunday, March 4 when they take on South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC.  Matches are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
