SALISBURY, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-1) kept rolling with a 5-4 win at Catawba, Tuesday. The Lady Rams needed every point they could get to pick up the win as it came down to some clutch singles play to decide the match winner.
The Lady Rams took a pair of doubles wins with the tandem of sophomores Kayla Carter and Kalin Jarvis picked up an 8-2 doubles win while fellow sophomores Bianka Locklear and Sloane Holmes added an 8-3 doubles win.
In singles play, our Lady Rams got wins from Jarvis (6-4, 6-0), and Carter (6-2, 6-1) in the second and third positions. In fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, the Lady Rams took losses so the match came down to the battle of number ones. WSSU sophomore Sloane Holmes picked up that win with a 7-5, 6-2 singles win and sealed the match for the Lady Rams.
WSSU will return to action, Monday when the team hosts the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks, Monday morning. For more information on Lady Rams tennis, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
